Let’s relive it!

Tri-City Sailing League 2022 is over

The 2022 Tri-City Sailing League is over. For the third year in a row, the League championship goes to the resident of Olivia Centre. At the same time, it is the second time in a row that the champion is the consulting company PwC.

Balex Tri-City Sailing League is a combination of sports competition with training and business aspects. Each round of the regatta is accompanied by theoretical training and practical training. In addition, the crews have yachts at their disposal almost throughout the season, so they train intensively between regattas. This format of the project means that the business environment has the opportunity to integrate, develop competences and group motivation in the waters of the Gulf of Gdańsk, which is a unique distinguishing feature on the map of Polish.

In this year’s edition, the weather conditions were good and we managed to hold all the planned races during 5 regattas. The general classification after the 2022 season included the results of as many as 30 races. Between the regattas there were also 5 group training sessions, which served to improve the competence and knowledge of the participants, as the majority of the regatta is attended by amateurs. In total, over 60 people took part in the regatta.

In the fight for victory, the crews of Dynatrace, Hear Studio and PwC Poland fared the best, for which for the second year in a row there were no strong ones. The vast experience of the skipper of this team, Borys Malinowski, who has been competing in the league in various teams for five years, meant that the impressive league cup will remain at the PwC headquarters in Olivia Centre for another year.

I’m very happy that we managed to defend the title, especially looking at the amount of training that the competitors did. With us, experience and swimming in the league format paid off, so the cup stays with us. One more win and it will be ours forever – says Borys Malinowski, helmsman at PwC, with a smile.

It is worth noting that the first two teams – Dynatrace and Hear Studio – are newcomers to the competition, but their level of commitment was huge and they quickly matched or even surpassed the skills of other crews. Especially the attitude of the helmsman of the Hear Studio crew was admirable, as he commuted to Sopot from Warsaw for training almost week after week. As a result, he went from last place in the first round to an excellent second place. This shows that a sailing adventure awaits everyone, and the formula of integration and motivation on the water is a perfect solution for the development of your own contacts and your own business.

This is the third time in the history of the regatta that the crews of Olivia Centre have won it. This is the result of the constant presence of sailing enthusiasts on the water as part of the Olivia Yacht Club project – an informal club of water sports enthusiasts, gathered around Olivia and the main promoter of the club, Maciej Kotarski. Olivia Yacht Club is a project that was created together with the Olympic gold medalist Mateusz Kusznierewicz, and among the instructors there were also medalists of the Polish, European and world championships, so the adepts of water sports had the opportunity to develop their passions under the supervision of professional sailing staff.

“I am bursting with pride that I was able to take the first step in this spectacular chain of victories as the helmsman of the Olivia Centre crew in 2019. It should be added that we were trained for 2 years by the amazing Mateusz Kusznierewicz, who was the captain of the crew, and we always had a professional navigator on board. Remigiusz Wojciechowski from Bayer Global Business Services Gdańsk, Bartłomiej Glinka from Omida S.A. were also regular members of our team. Michał Krzepkowski from EPAM Polska and a professional navigator Mikołaj Staniul – says Maciej Kotarski, who is also the director of commercialization of Olivia Centre.

– The Bay of Gdańsk and its values are one of the most important distinguishing features of the Tri-City, which attracts people from all over Polish to the sea like a magnet. – emphasizes Bogusław Wieczorek, Plenipotentiary of the Management Board of Olivia Centre. – It would be a sin not to take full advantage of it, which is why for years in Olivia we have been trying to integrate the business environment around sailing, and not only in the season, and it must be admitted that there are fewer cruises in the season. The sea and the bay have meant that Gdańsk has been on the rise for years. Companies are increasingly moving their headquarters here. Moreover, it is easier for employers to recruit professional staff from other parts of Polish not only because of professional prospects, but also because of the high quality of life, and access to the beaches, sea and mountainous forests of the Tri-City Landscape Park is one of the key reasons why research shows that the happiest Poles live in the Tri-City – adds Bogusław Wieczorek.

About Olivia Yacht Club

The third edition of the Oliwa Neighbourhood Budget has ended!

Another pool of money goes to the inhabitants of Oliwa. We have completed the third edition of the Oliwa Neighbourhood Budget.

Projects in the field of neighbourhood integration, public recreational infrastructure and creative workshops for children are the projects that received funding from this year’s edition of Olivia’s neighbourhood budget, the results of which were announced on 15 September during the Olivia Festival.

The Oliwa Neighbourhood Budget (OBS) is an initiative to support projects important to the residents of Gdańsk Oliwa. Since 2019, residents of the district, educational institutions and public benefit organizations have been submitting their ideas for the development of Oliwa – the place where the Olivia Centre is also located. OBS was established on Olivia’s initiative, but its fund also includes one of the Gdańsk councillors, a local cultural animator Andrzej Stelmasiewicz. All previous editions of the neighbourhood budget have made it possible to co-finance projects with a total value of nearly PLN 50,000. Golden.

In this year’s edition of the Oliwa Neighbourhood Budget, a wide variety of projects were submitted, which covered areas such as integration, physical activity and education. Their initiators were both local social activists, scientists and residents of the district joined in groups.

The jury, consisting of councillors of the Oliwa district, teachers, cultural creators, local entrepreneurs and representatives of the Olivia Centre, decided to co-finance three projects: Sportowy Gaj, Neighbourhood in the Gate and Puppet Making Workshops. The first one involves the installation of publicly available physical exercise equipment on the premises of Primary School No. 35, providing training equipment for both the school’s students (during lessons) and other residents of Oliwa during non-school hours. The second one involves the organization of integration meetings in the autumn and winter period, providing an attraction for the youngest residents of the district, seniors, as well as guests from Ukraine who have settled in Oliwa. The third project that received funding is a puppet making workshop for a puppet theatre, which will take place in the Oliwa Library, Primary School No. 35 and the First Social Primary School at ul. Polanki 11 in the period from September 2022 to May 2023.

  • Sportowy Gaj is an infrastructure project submitted by Primary School No. 35 with Sports Departments in Gdańsk Oliwa.

  • Neighbourhood in the gate – a project submitted by Aniela Zienkiewicz, councillor of the Oliwa district, and Maja Grabkowska, social geographer, assistant professor at the Institute of Socio-Economic Geography and Spatial Management of the University of Gdańsk.

  • Puppet making workshops dedicated to the youngest inhabitants of Oliwa. It is an open art project aimed at children of early school age, which will be carried out periodically in the Oliwa Library, schools and a temporary home for Ukrainian children and their mothers at ul. Wita Stwosza 23.

“This year’s edition of the Oliwa Neighbourhood Budget was full of very well-thought-out and well-prepared projects ,” says Bogusław Wieczorek, Olivia Centre’s plenipotentiary, a member of the jury of the Oliwa Neighbourhood Budget. – During the jury’s deliberations, we had to devote a lot of time to discussing their importance for the local community, because, as every year, we wanted to co-finance projects that were diverse in their nature, and at the same time important for the residents of Oliwa. I believe that, as in previous years, this year’s selected projects will be noticed by the residents and will significantly contribute to meeting their needs.

Flow O4 Coworking Club is a year old!

The first birthday of the Flow Club will be an event with truly feminine energy. Do you know that it was in Olivia, in
O4 Coworking
, that the first coworking space created by women with women in mind was created? It is here that the
Flow Club
operates, whose members meet once a month to take part in workshops, develop privately and professionally. In October, the Flow Club celebrates the 1. birthday. On this occasion, a group of female experts will take up the topic of rational and empathetic solutions for business. The Flow Club invited m.in
Design Thinking Institute
to cooperate.

WHAT IS A FLOW CLUB?

The Flow Club brings together businesswomen from O4 Coworking, Olivia Centre and other professional circles. They meet regularly in the O4 Flow Coworking in Olivia Gate, take part in workshops and develop professional contacts. Thanks to networking, they make new friends, exchange experiences, develop competences, expand their knowledge, inspire each other, and carry out joint projects. The Flow Club is also a celebration, which is why it will soon celebrate its year of activity.

DESIGN THINKING FOR THE 1ST BIRTHDAY

As part of the celebration of the first birthday, m.in will be held. a panel discussion on women’s solutions for business, with the use of design thinking tools under the slogan “The world must not be left as it is”. Janusz Korczak’s words will serve as a starting point for a conversation about a rational approach to change. The discussion will be attended by:

  • Magdalena Binkiewicz – Flow Club Ambassador, Turquoise Leader, HR Manager, trainer and coach
  • Katarzyna Talaga-Korcz – Moderator of Design Thinking, Design Thinking Institute
  • Patrycja Korczyńska Creative Business Partner, Design Thinking Institute
  • Aleksandra Jagłowska, Marketing Manager at Marion. The conversation will be moderated by Marta Moksa, manager of O4 Coworking.

The organizers are also planning live music and stalls with handicrafts and products from local designers. The event will be attended by members of the Flow Club and friends of O4 Coworking: businesswomen, freelancers, influencers and representatives of Olivia Centre. The event is dedicated to current members of the club, but it is worth remembering that every lady from Olivia can join the Club and take advantage of the entire package of trainings or workshops organized by Flow throughout the year! See how to join the Flow Club.

FLOW CLUB – WHY IS IT WORTH IT?

We know that business is about relationships, which is why networking is one of its most important elements. The Flow Club brings together representatives of various communities who, thanks to new relationships, exchange experiences or undertake new, joint initiatives. The club’s meetings are attended by experts and specialists from various industries, who talk about current trends. The Flow Club is not only an added value to the professional area, but also a great way to spend your free time.

Partners of the event: Design Thinking Institute, Marion, Olivia Star, Olivia Garden.

Good tones. The great premiere of the Olivia Centre Choir’s album!

Admission

It is with great pleasure that we present to you the album – the result of the work and talent of people whose paths met in Olivia and were united by their love for music. It’s a unique album, woven from sounds, commitment of the whole band and authentic emotions.

Perhaps some of you will be surprised by the album released by the business center. However, this is one of those cases when we feel like a community in which the choir plays an important role.

The Olivia Centre Choir is a group of people working in various companies in the centre. It is a band that, after working hours, among everyday obligations, finds time to develop their talent and enjoy making music together. It is this joy that we wish to share today.

We present this album to you full of hope that the sounds recorded on it will bring you at least a little closer to the passion of the community that has been created around the Olivia Centre and is constantly developing.

Chapter 1

Baton Wanted

It started inconspicuously. From the musical sentiment of one person – Remigiusz Wojciechowski from Bayer. Music has always been important to him. Once, sitting in the audience of the philharmonic, he remembered the emotions that accompanied him when he sang in the choir. He thought he would like to have them in his life again. To do that, you needed people and a conductor. There was no shortage of people in the Bayer office, and a casting call for conductor was announced. Searches were made in the Tri-City and the surrounding area, messages were sent, telephones rang. After long talks, it was announced that Wiktoria Pagieła – a graduate of the Gdańsk Academy of Music, an experienced conductor and winner of numerous competitions – would become the choir’s conductor. This is how the Bayer employee choir was formed, and here we could write that the choristers and the conductor sang happily ever after. And while that would be true, it’s worth adding a few details.

Remigiusz Wojciechowski, bass

Mój ulubiony moment w chórze następuje chwilę po tym najtrudniejszym: kiedy rozczytujemy nowy utwór i każdy głos mozolnie klei nutę za nutą. Najpierw soprany, potem alty, tenory i wreszcie basy. Poziom energii jest niski, trochę wieje nudą. Aż w końcu przychodzi moment, gdy zaczynamy składać głosy ze sobą, choćby na kilka taktów. Wtedy zaczyna się muzyka i radość ze wspólnego tworzenia.

Chapter 2

Everybody wants to sing

The news about the newly formed choir spread widely – the unusual initiative was impressive and it soon turned out that amateurs of choral singing can be found among many organizations. Less than a year later, the Bayer employee choir became the choir of the entire Olivia Centre. And so the team was joined by women and men, managers and specialists, seniors and juniors. They wanted to sing and they did, and Wiktoria’s baton combined many voices into one tone.

Chapter 3

Concert debut

They sang morning, night, on the way to work and in the shower, they sang in the offices and on their walks, they sang at every rehearsal, with all their hearts, until it was time to sing on stage. A spring concert was organized under the name Olivia Camerata: All That Jazz! The first concert is impossible to forget. Dressed in evening clothes, they performed three songs in front of a wide audience gathered in Olivia Star. There was no end to the applause! The choir rode the wave and a few months later performed an even more demanding repertoire at a concert at the Open House Gdańsk. Joint attempts and first successes brought people closer together. They enjoyed spending time together. Something important (and beautiful) happened between Ania and Wojtek. No wonder, Shakespeare was right when he said that music is the food of love…

Anna Ficek, soprano

I have been part of the choir since January 2019. For me, the choir was a return to music, to singing, which had always accompanied me. Thanks to the choir, my, so to speak, childhood passion awoke in me again. I’ve met great people here and found love, not only for music.

Chapter 4

Quiet

And then the pandemic hit… From one day to the next, choir rehearsals were cancelled and meetings became impossible. There was no way to train our voices together, to look into each other’s eyes and enjoy singing together. But people with passion will always find a way to pursue it, so they set off… online rehearsals, at a distance. The effort and determination were not in vain! The choir recorded, completely remotely, their first video, singing the song Sweet Dreams by Eurythmics.

Chapter 5

Spring

Autumn and winter passed, and the time had come when the heart of every choir member was yearning for music. Indoor rehearsals were still not a sensible idea, so the choir hesitantly started outdoor meetings. Spring Oliwa delighted with its beauty, and there was no shortage of places to sing. From timid rehearsals, a bold project was created – the choir’s second video, recorded for the song Seasons of love by Jonathan Larson. The time of separation was a difficult time for the friendships that formed between the notes.

Karolina Rymarczyk, soprano

Z Ewą poznałyśmy się na przesłuchaniach. Najbardziej zintegrował nas jednak nasz pierwszy chóralny projekt – praca nad teledyskiem do Seasons of love.

Ważnym momentem było nagranie teledysku do piosenki Seasons of love w urokliwym leśnym otoczeniu. Z Karoliną złapałyśmy wtedy kontakt i wspólną energię. Piosenka z musicalu Rent do dziś jest dla mnie bardzo ważna. Wspólna pasja buduje i może być początkiem pięknych znajomości!

Chapter 6

Where Music Flourishes

Again together, undefeated, they met for weekly rehearsals, rehearsing a completely new, exotic repertoire. A year-round tropical garden filled with plants from all over the world has been opened in Olivia Centre. Such a green space, pulsating with colours, inspired new musical explorations. In Olivia Garden, among ficus and banana trees, with the audience sitting on the boards of moso bamboo, during the next concert, traditional African Zulu folk songs resounded. The foreign-sounding language did not hinder understanding – every sound, bar, tone resounded with pure joy.

Chapter 7

Heart

On March 28, 2022, the words of the song Prayer for Ukraine flowed from the throats of more than a hundred choristers, including the Olivia Centre Choir. This is how the charity concert Heart with Ukraine began, organized in Olivia for refugees fleeing to Polish from the war-torn country. Its originator was Wiktoria Pagieła, a native of Zhytomyr. It was Wiktoria’s energy and persistence that allowed us to gather on one stage outstanding Ukrainian, Belarusian and Polish artists, who together performed a piece that was a prayer for a good fate for Ukraine, for wisdom, divine protection and many years for the country and its people.

Chapter 8

They sing happily ever after

Over the 5 years of its activity, the band has gained many new voices. However, there are also constant, unchangeable ones in it – one of them is the voice of Remigiusz – the initiator of the whole project. In the symbolic fifth year, the album is created. It is not only a record of the songs performed together, but above all of the stories of people who were unexpectedly brought together by a passion for music.

Chapter 9

Postscript

We hope that the album will not only provide you with musical and aesthetic impressions, but also inspire you to discover and develop your talents. The album was created as an expression of the desire to share with our friends and supporters the fruit of the passion of the Olivia Centre community. Thank you for being with us!

Welcome

That’s how it went. A few words about the beginnings of Olivia’s Choir…

The premiere of the Olivia Choir’s album is just around the corner!
In the meantime, let’s remember the beginnings.
That’s how it went…

My favorite moment in the choir comes right after the most difficult one: when we’re reading
A new song and each voice laboriously glues together note after note. First the sopranos, then the altos, tenors and finally the basses. The energy level is low, a bit boring. And finally, there comes a moment when we start to put the voices together, even if only for a few bars. That’s when the music and the joy of creating together begins.

— Remigiusz Wojciechowski, bass

It all started with the musical sentiment of Remigiusz Wojciechowski from Bayer. Music has always been important to him. Once, sitting in the audience of the Philharmonic, he recalled the emotions that accompanied him when he sang in the choir. He thought he would like to have them in his life again. To do that, you needed people and a conductor. There was no shortage of people in the Bayer office, and a casting call for conductor was announced. It was won by Wiktoria Pagieła , a graduate of the Gdańsk Academy of Music, and so, in 2018, the Bayer employee choir was formed. Less than a year later, it transformed into the choir of the entire Olivia Centre. Of course, we can do more together. He was joined by singing employees, AirHelp, Energa, GFKM, Nordea, Olivia Centre, PwC, Sii, Talkers and Thyssenkrupp.

Debut

The Olivia Business Centre Choir (as it was then called) made its debut on 25 April 2019 during the Easter Concert of the Olivia Camerata series. He presented three pieces:

  • „Oh Happy Day” Dona Howarda,
  • „Somewhere Over the Rainbow”, klasyczną balladę napisaną przez Harolda Arlena i E.Y. Harburga do filmu „Czarnoksiężnik z Oz” z 1939 roku,
  • „Can’t help folling in love” Elvisa Presleya z 1969 roku.

Let us just remind you that this Camerata began with a recital by Krystyna Gedzik and Ulyana Hedzik. We heard the greatest hits of jazz, gospel and folk. The finale was the performance of the Vita Activa orchestra, which has performed nearly 300 concerts in Poland and abroad. The orchestra has been operating since 1995 at the Polish Association for People with Intellectual Disabilities Koło in Gdańsk. The artists performed works by G.F. Händel, J. Offenbach, M. Mussorgsky, A. Pizzolli, I. Rekhin, G. Scherterberger, S. Joplin, J. Kandler, Q. Jones, arranged for percussion orchestra.

All That Jazz

We couldn’t forget that evening for a long time. Olivia Camerata: All That Jazz resounded with dozens of voices on September 14, 2019. The camerat’s repertoire abounded in everything that was rocking and energizing. The concert at Olivia Star was opened by Alexander Stupnikov, an artist and composer from the Schibsted company. He made one of the most outstanding works Frédéric Chopin “Fantaisie impromptu, op. cit. 66” and original works: “Polka in F major ” and “Autumn Waltz”. The second part featured the long-applauded Olivia Business Centre Choir, while the third part was a real jazz feast. We listened to an amazing swing performed by Krystyna Durys and the jazz band accompanying the vocalist.

The choir presented the following novelties:

  • „El ultimo Cafe” (tango) muz. Hector Stamponi
  • „Prende la Vela” muz. Lucho Bermundez (tenor solo: Hamish Potts, perkusja: Katarzyna Rozkosz)
  • „Volare” muz. Domenico Modugno

Sweet dreams

Although the pandemic interrupted live meetings and rehearsals, it did not prevent online musical contacts. Yes, it was difficult. Yes, it was a challenge, but there is nothing difficult for those who want to. Where there is passion, extraordinary things are born. And so, during the pandemic, the choir rehearsed and recorded – completely remotely – ” Sweet Dreams” by Eurythics. Let’s relive it.

And there’s a music video!

We will end this “episode” of mini-stories about our choir by reminding you of the first music video in the history of Olivia and the history of our choir. It was the big launch of spring 2020. “Seasons of Love ” from the Broadway musical “Rent”, written and composed by Jonathan Larson, was performed and presented by the Olivia Business Centre Choir on May 26. It’s no coincidence that we chose this day as the release date. It was a special day, Mother’s Day. And it is to mothers that this premiere is dedicated.

To be continued…
