About! SUMMER: we go to the city. We invite you to take a walk around Oliwa!

What is Gdańsk like seen away from tourist paths? What stories and secrets escape the authors of publicly available guides? You can find out during alternative city science walks, to which “Local Guides” invite you.

As part of the “O! Summer” we invite you to a series of walks around Gdańsk’s districts. We start on July 23 at 5.00 p.m. and we go into the city along the Oliwa Route!

The walk will be an opportunity to look at the urban and architectural changes in Oliwa over the centuries. In addition to the contemporary architecture of office buildings, we can find examples of villa buildings implemented in the spirit of the idea of the “garden city”, as well as patrician mansions from the eighteenth century. We will learn the stories of the pre-war and post-war inhabitants of Oliwa: architect Kurt Arnheim, entrepreneur Otto Grimmer and his photograph of pre-war Oliwa, Krzysztof Klenczon, Irena Jarocka, architect Marian Osiński, the Kilarski family, the Pelczar family, as well as pre-war professors of the Gdańsk University of Technology living in Oliwa (Eberhard Buchwald – physics, Viktor Zirkwitz – architecture and others).

Route: Olivia Centre – ul. Wąsowicza – ul. Tetmajera – ul. Grottgera – ul. Orkana – ul. Polanki – Manor House II

Local Guides

It is an initiative that brings together the inhabitants of Gdańsk who show around the lesser-known corners of the city with passion, knowledge and commitment. Each walk is carried out according to the original scenario of the guide. During it, you can hear about the surrounding nature and architecture, learn about the history of the district, look into its secret places usually known only to residents. Guides talk about literary inspirations or artistic threads related to a given place, and their narratives are often embellished with personal notes.

Walks allow you to get to know the city from a different side. It happens that the stories told by the guide surprise the oldest residents of a given district. Tourists, on the other hand, appreciate the “insider” knowledge of the guides, which reveals the atmosphere of the place to them and allows them to delve deeper into the specificity of the city. More about Local Guides…

The organizer of the project is City Culture Institute – a local government cultural institution that creates events for and with the participation of residents. Its aim is to increase the role of culture in the life of the city and to develop local identity. For more events, please visit www.ikm.gda.pl.

A date with a recruiter – O4 coworking in Olivia Centre is becoming one of the most dynamically operating recruitment centres in Pomerania

Urban legends circulate about how recruiters use dating apps to find candidates. It turns out that dating recruiters actually takes place and for the benefit of both candidates and companies. O4 Coworking in Gdańsk has been organizing speed recruitment dates for 3 years now. The effects are surprising.

O4 Coworking residents are small and medium-sized companies for which time and effectiveness of reaching candidates are important. We have heard from many of them that it is difficult for them to recruit people for junior positions. That’s why we created a format we called Recruitment Speed Dating. In May, we organized the 7th edition of the project, which after a month from its end gives participants satisfaction from working in the companies they met at this event – says Martyna Czarnobaj-Borowska, creator and manager of this format.

What is speed dating recruiting? O4 Coworking invites specific Pomeranian universities to cooperate and recruits participants from among their students. At the same time, it includes companies that are looking for people for junior positions in the project. So far, 500 students and 100 employers have participated in the project. When applying for the project, students must justify why they want to take part in it, and the project itself is divided into several stages, which allow young adepts to prepare for interviews, and companies to recognize the best candidates for work. The first stage consists of workshops on competences that are useful at the stage of looking for a job and developing a career, as well as initial interviews aimed at checking the fit of candidates to the needs of companies. The magic happens at the next stage. Each participant meets with people representing the companies involved in the project. These conversations last 6 minutes and take place on a similar basis to “speed dating.”

Speed Dating at O4 coworking

This year, we took part in 2 editions of this project
– says Bartosz Badzioch, director at PredictX, a company looking for young, creative employees as part of Recruitment Speed Dating. Within 3 hours, I had 20 recruitment interviews with young people who had been tested beforehand, open-minded and willing to work. I was able to get to know their motivations, and they had the opportunity to learn what we do at PredicX and how we work. In one morning, I collected 20 well-chosen CVs. I invited some of these people to further recruitment. In addition to recruitment benefits, participation in this project is also a valuable image-building activity.

Students who “dated” companies also did not hide their satisfaction with participation in the project. Weronika Paluch, a student of English Philology at the University of Gdańsk, appreciated the workshops preceding the meetings with recruiters. Most of the people I know from university have already had their first professional experience. We know that finding a job that we will fit in and grow in requires more than just responding to advertisements. That is why the workshops on communication and the use of LinkedIn in the job search process were very valuable to us. And the quick meetings with recruiters themselves are a developing experience. Even if they do not end with receiving an offer, they are a great opportunity to practice and learn about the mechanisms of modern recruitment – Weronika describes her experience.

Speed Dating at O4 coworking

The partner of the 7. edition of Speed Dating Recruitment was EF Education First, a world leader in language and intercultural education, as well as WSB Merito and the University of Gdańsk “We share a common goal with EF – to open the door to new growth opportunities. EF has been doing this in the field of language education for almost 60 years, offering language courses and learning trips around the world. We know from employers that knowledge of foreign languages is often a basic requirement for people starting their careers. That is why it is worth investing in proven solutions and that is why we are glad that EF was a partner of this edition of Speed Dating – sums up Martyna Czarnobaj-Borowska.

Olivia Centre is a hub in which over 200 companies are currently operating – emphasizes Bogusław Wieczorek, the representative of the Management Board of Olivia Centre. These are very different entities – from the most well-known global corporations such as Amazon, Bayer, Nike or thyssenkrupp to small and medium-sized enterprises concentrated in the O4 coworking space. It is our melting pot of creativity and it is where many initiatives are born, bringing added value to the entire community of Olivia residents. Speed Dating Recruitment is one of them, and the fact that its seventh edition has already taken place shows that the project brings tangible results. As the experience of previous editions shows, almost all participants have a good chance of finding a job, because the effectiveness of this form of recruitment is almost 70%.

Works at the 32. Olivia Star!

Can robots provide the highest level of restaurant guest satisfaction? They will never replace a professional waiter, but they can speed up his work, relieve him and provide entertainment. This is what happens in a restaurant at 32p. Olivia Star, where robot waiters have become a local attraction.

Serving several hundred guests every day on an area of nearly 800m2 is a challenge that Olivia Star’s waiters face every day. Restaurant managers on the 32nd floor of the tallest building in northern Poland have found a recipe for this. By employing robots, they not only relieved the staff, but also provided guests with unique attractions. At the end of last year, at the 32. Olivia Star floor, two nice robots joined our team – Olivia and Oliver – says Rafał Marcyniuk, member of the company’s management board. – The decision to buy them was dictated by the desire to relieve the waiters of hard physical work and multiple approaches to tables with orders, especially in the case of group reservations. All this so that they can focus more on talking to guests and the best possible service.

32nd Floor Olivia Star

Robots have been engaged to perform simple activities that significantly relieve the waiter staff in a situation where they have several dishes to serve on the tables of guests at the same time. Two-storey transport spaces allow for the delivery of up to a dozen dishes and drinks to tables at the same time. Their capabilities allow for immediate delivery of up to 40 kg of ordered dishes to guests’ tables. Such a solution is still a rare curiosity, and allows not only to relieve the staff, but also to provide guests with a real attraction. The robots evoke vivid, very positive reactions, guests take photos with them, which they share on social media.

The first reactions of the staff were mixed – notes Krzysztof Dembek, member of the board of Olivia Star Top. Some of our employees were afraid that robots would take their jobs. Fortunately, after a few weeks of living together, the lack of trust turned into friendship. It turned out that the “waiter-robot” duo works perfectly together. The ability to relieve employees of the need to carry heavy trays made him an ideal waiter’s helper. Thanks to this, we have improved guest service, and waitresses and waiters have more time and patience to give them a warm smile.

As Krzysztof Wajk, a representative of LSI Software, which provides robots, emphasizes, Olivia Star’s managers focused not on the marketing effect, using robots for promotion, but on their useful value and effectiveness. Thanks to the support of robots, waiters are able to reduce the waiting time of guests to a minimum, because this repetitive task is performed with almost perfect precision by a robot. During this time, the waiter can offer and accept further orders. PUDU robots, such as BellaBot, were created to support employees and build even better customer experiences in the HoReCa sector. It is in this sector that they have a huge potential, which is already radiating to other sectors of the economy. These robots are now used in many areas in Poland and around the world, where they are already successfully used. Thanks to their many functions, they can be used in almost every task and duty in the logistics, HoReCa or even entertainment industry segments – notes Krzysztof Wajk.

We are glad that our residents use the latest technologies.says Bogusław Wieczorek, the representative of the management board of Olivia Centre. The creation of a tourist attraction that breaks records of popularity – which is a terrace at a height of 130 meters with a view of the entire Tri-City, the Bay of Gdańsk and the Oliwa forests – posed new challenges that can be met in an innovative and very effective way. It is worth seeing it for yourself, come to Olivia Centre and take a photo with a robotic waiter with a fantastic view in the background.

About! SUMMER. We recommend you to play jerk!

We cordially invite you to join us in training to play jerk (it is the oldest Polish sport). You don’t need to have experience, fitness or equipment to join the Tri-City team – all you need is willingness! You will learn everything on the spot.

Trainings take place every Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. in Reagan Park (or in the Sports Hall at 30 Wąsowicza Street, when the weather does not allow for outdoor training).

The trainings are free and open to everyone.

And that’s interesting!

Many mistakenly believe that jerk was created as a derivative of baseball, but it was the other way around! This sport was probably invented in the 16th century, during the reign of Sigismund III Vasa. At that time, it was a movement game, in which mainly representatives of the lower social classes participated.

The rules of the jerk game were passed down by word of mouth until the 1960s. of the last century. Then, in 1956, the Polish Palant Football Federation was established.

The rules of the game are very simple. The pitch is divided into “heaven” and “hell”. In “heaven” there is a player whose task is to toss the ball and bounce it with a stick at least beyond the starting line (to “hell”). After the bounce, he runs to the next bases, and if he runs through fourth base, he scores a point. The opposing team’s task is to throw the ball over the starting line as quickly as possible. “For several years, there has been no institution that would regulate the games, so we play according to the rules that I remember from my hometown of Działdowo,” adds the president of the Polish Palant Association.

Who is behind the training in the Tri-City? Tri-City Club of the game of jerk!

The Tri-City Palanta Club

started its activity in 2015. Initially, the meetings of Tri-City jerks and jerks were integrative, and the organized trainings were a form of recreation bringing together the local community. Over the years, more and more people joined the Club, who found the old sports spirit in the game of jerk and who wanted to revive the traditional Polish discipline together.

2019 became a breakthrough year for the Tri-City Club, which for the first time entered its team to compete at the national level. The debutants of the competition took first place at the Polish Championships. From that moment, the Club began regular training aimed at improving sports predispositions, transforming its activities from a recreational form to a strictly sports one. Cyclical training and the commitment of the players contributed to further victories, and so in 2020 the Tri-City defended the Championship title. The dynamic development of the Club combined with numerous sports successes made us decide to formalize our activities.

And so, in May 2021, the club officially became the Polish Palant Association Club Tri-City – PSPal Trójmiasto, thus blazing further paths of development. The head of the Association as the President was Miłosz Dzenis, who has been with the Club from the very beginning. The members of the Management Board are Magdalena Westa, Roksana Spryszyńska, Karol Stańczyk and Arkadiusz Szyszka. Today, the Association has 27 members who actively work for the development of Palant as a sports discipline throughout Poland.

The association organizes cyclical trainings and nationwide sports tournaments, such as the Polish Cup on the beach and the Polish Cup on the grass. The team currently consists of about 70 players. By conducting open trainings and numerous activities to promote the jerk in the Tri-City community, every year he gains new members and supporters who are united by his passion for sport and tradition.

WELCOME!

Safety Day in Olivia | The Great Safety Day is behind us!

On 19 June, Safety Day II took place in Olivia – a unique event devoted to broadly understood safety. Participants had the opportunity to meet representatives of uniformed services, take part in demonstrations and expand their knowledge about various aspects of security.

The main attractions of the day:

  • Fire Brigade shows: Firefighters presented dynamic oil extinguishing, showing how dangerous it can be to extinguish grease with water and teaching proper techniques of dealing with fires. This point attracted the attention of many passers-by!
  • Crash and Rollover Simulators: The simulators allowed the participants to experience the effects of road accidents in controlled conditions. It was a great opportunity to understand how important it is to wear seat belts and obey road rules.
  • Forensic techniques: A police forensic technician demonstrated how evidence is collected at the scene of an incident or crime. Participants could see how forensic technicians work and what tools they use in their work.
  • Police Equipment: officers from the Road Traffic Department presented a marked police car and various devices used during everyday activities. It was a fascinating lesson for everyone, both young and old:)
  • First Aid Station: Demonstrations of first aid equipment were held on site. Participants were able to learn basic rescue procedures such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED). These skills can save someone’s life, which is why they were very popular.
  • Military Equipment Shows: There was also a stand with military equipment on site, where participants could see modern equipment and armament. It was a unique opportunity to take a close look at the technology used by the military and talk to experts about its applications.
  • Challenge Zone with City Fit:
for lovers of physical activity, a special challenge zone was prepared run by City Fit, where participants could test their physical fitness

Of course, there was also great music and delicious food. DJ Van Klocek made the atmosphere more pleasant with great music tracks, and warm burgers straight from Zebra Burger and cooling ice cream from Icestands, as usual, were the success of the 🙂

WHAT AN EVENTFUL DAY! Thank you all for coming and see you next year:)

About Michelin Stars

For lovers of refined flavors and unforgettable experiences, Michelin-starred restaurants are a must-see on the gastronomic map of the world. And for almost every chef, being included in the Michelin culinary guide is the pinnacle of professional aspirations. The French “gourmet bible” has been an oracle for those looking for the best restaurants in the world for decades. Even one Michelin star is a huge distinction. The award increases the prestige of the restaurant and the reputation of the chef and his team. Also a reason to be proud is the Bib Gourmand badge, the green “eco” clover, the fork and the very fact of being included in the guide.

Michelin stars are awarded in three categories:

  • 3 starsand – be sure to see,
  • 2 stars – worth visiting,
  • 1 star – noteworthy.

Restaurants are rated by anonymous food critics who do not announce their visits. Inspectors verify the quality of dishes, their taste and the way they are served. In this way, they check the skills of the cooks, they also assess the atmosphere of the place, as well as the value for money. Importantly, the stars are awarded only for one year. After this time, the restaurant is verified again. One star is awarded to restaurants that are “very good and noteworthy in their category”. Two stars mean that the place is “worth visiting for the quality of food and service”. Three stars are awarded to those unique establishments that “are worth a special trip”.

Michelin Guide UK

5 criteria for judging a Michelin inspector’s restaurant:

  • product quality,
  • mastering the taste and cooking techniques,
  • the chef’s personality represented in the culinary experience,
  • the value of experience in terms of quality and price,
  • consistency between inspectors’ visits.

About Bib Gourmand

The Michelin world does not end with stars. Since 1997, the guide has also awarded “good quality, good value cooking” restaurants. This means no more and no less good value for money. The restaurants that Michelin judges say best meet the criterion of high quality at an affordable price are now awarded the Bib Gourmand award.

Cutlery and clovers

Michelin also awards cutlery and clovers.

  • Cutlery is awarded to the climatic décor of the restaurant, the quality of service and amenities for customers or the atmosphere in the premises, the restaurant can receive a maximum of five cutlery.
  • The cloverleaf – the latest award used since 2020 – is awarded to restaurants that prepare dishes in a sustainable way, the award aims to promote the conscious use of natural resources.

Viterra – the world leader in the cereal market – has opened its new offices in Olivia

Viterra – the world leader in the cereal market –

has opened its new offices in Olivia Centre. Viterra is present in 35 countries and operates in the most important global markets. It has occupied a representative office on the top floor of Olivia’s newest building – Olivia Prime B.

– A new Resident is always a great joy, especially since Gdańsk has been a historical centre of grain trade for hundreds of years, and Viterra Polska is a leader in the sale of not only cereals, but also oilseeds, legumes, sugar, rice, cotton, vegetable oils and biodiesel – emphasizes Maciej Kotarski from Olivia Centre. – Viterra handles 1.5 million tons of goods annually in ports, exports 2 million tons by land, and has ten of its own storage locations in Poland, elevators that allow it to store 350,000 tons of goods in Poland. tons and its own production of vegetable oils.

The office on the 14th floor of Olivia Prime B provides stunning panoramic views of the Bay of Gdańsk, the Gdynia cliffs in Orłowo, the marina in Sopot and the green Tri-City Landscape Park surrounding Olivia. The premises cover an area of over 1400 m. Kw. and a private terrace, located above the office, on the 15th floor, where lounge furniture, deckchairs and greenery have been prepared.

Viterra, as a company from the plant trade industry, perfectly fits Olivia Prime, whose interiors have been designed by
the architectural studio Design Anatomy
in the spirit of biophilic design, combined with the power art trend: Olivia Prime is a unique building in every respect – says Maciej Kotarski. We place great emphasis on the contact of its users with nature and natural materials. Extensive terraces, filled with vegetation, frequently appearing wood, as well as greenery suspended from the ceilings make an amazing impression in an ultra-modern office building. Olivia Prime is also very surprising with the interiors of the elevators, which are lined with fragrant natural wood, which provides an unparalleled experience for all guests of the facility. At the same time, the building is saturated with art. Murals in all halls, walls designed like paintings, screens in the main hall – vertical structures moving in many planes. The combination of the biophilic trend and power art allows us to meet two needs. The first is the harmony of the spirit and the sense of contact with nature through soft furniture, plants and natural materials in the spirit of biophilic design. The second is the need for strength and energy, providing users with a place that fills them with good energy. Entering work is supposed to make us smile, energize, make us feel a surge of power and want to act.

Olivia Prime is one of only 4 buildings in Poland with an all-glass triple-glazed façade, which provides the best possible lighting in autumn and winter. This helps to ensure better well-being of employees. In spring and summer, the triple-glazed façade prevents overheating and provides thermal comfort even on very sunny days, and in the winter and autumn months it allows much greater access to daylight, which is so important for humans.

Viterra is not the first company from the food industry to open its offices in Olivia Centre. Earlier, Paula Fish, which employs over 800 people, found its place in the largest Polish business center. It is not only one of the European leaders in the fish processing market, but also a pioneer in ecology and sustainable development. The main goal of the company’s development in the coming months is related to achieving climate neutrality, the use of environmentally sustainable fishing methods, as well as the most environmentally friendly fleet of vehicles used to transport their products.

Polish Agro is also one of the companies that cannot often be associated with modern business centers. The main profile of its activity focuses on the trade of fertilizers, plant protection products, as well as seeds and agricultural products. The company is part of the DAVA Agravis International A/S group. Its companies are among the leaders of the agricultural market in their countries and operate mainly in the Baltic Sea region.
