About! Game. Interview with Krzysztof Pimpicki from Positive Productivity

What IT tools are used for in practice, how to standardize activities to make automation effective and cheaper, and how to effectively measure work will soon be found out by the participants of O! Game! In a business simulation, rival teams will face real challenges. Players involved in the improvement process will learn how to eliminate waste more effectively through mapping and work on choosing the right strategy that will allow them to achieve even better results – says Krzysztof Pimpicki, CEO, Strategic Partner of Management Boards, Master Trainer at Positive Productivity, co-leader of the O! Game in Olivia Business Centre.

What is O! Game?

About! Game is a lean game based on the use of IT tools needed to optimize the improvement process. In practice, we are moving the SSC environment to the game/simulation environment. We engage the participating teams who, seeing the results, are able to achieve better business results thanks to the use of the latest technology in the field of data measurement and analysis. This happens both in terms of processes and management by the key performance indicators (KPIs) present in the game.

Who is the originator and creator of the game?

The Positive Productivity team was looking for a method that would show the improvement process in a fun and engaging way. This one can be easy as long as we have data, transparency, and the ability to test changes. We created the game in order to convince the participants that continuous improvement can be fun, fast and engaging on the basis of real data and IT tools, not just Excel and a stopwatch.

How do the workshops take place in practice?

We have allocated 4 hours for the whole game. In the first part, we will deal with the business environment, as the goal is to learn about the work of individual positions of operational specialists. It is important that, in addition to the IT tools used to measure and improve the results both from an operational and financial perspective, the participants experience work standards based on detailed instructions. It’s as if they’ve just been recruited for a new position. We will then involve them in the process of improving this by eliminating waste, mapping and working as a group to choose the right strategy for organizing work within the team. All this in order to achieve better results. That is, we will combine IT with classic work and its basic tools.

What are the lessons learned from previous editions?

The game quickly catches on. The participants emphasize that it is a completely different kind of “fun”. Usually, they mean simulations with the use of blocks, i.e. a much less business-like model. In this case, we are dealing with a reflection of the realities in which the participants experience change. They see and see how a given strategy translates into results. It is an interesting and engaging experience, with an element of competition between the different teams. By actually translating actions into concrete results, participants can learn a lot while working in a natural environment.

How many bands?

We plan a maximum of 12 active people, divided into two teams. The limitation is due to the tools that will be used in O! Game. These will be tablets with which changes will be made on an ongoing basis. On the other hand, it is a great opportunity to meet specialists from other companies, because we invite one participant from each organization from the Tri-City area.
